Happy 2017, everyone!!! To kick off the new year, I thought I'd share a new spot in the city for sweets and treats. Roll Cake just opened their second location along Corydon and a couple of friends and I decided to check it out. The bakery offers your typical selection of cupcakes, cookies and cafe drinks but what it's really known for is their eggfle. An eggfle is a dessert consisting of a waffle with egg shaped puffs topped with ice cream and your choice of toppings. Totally tastes as good as it sounds. Next thing on my list to try is their Japanese Cheesecake so I'm definitely heading back to Roll Cake soon!

I've been meaning to check out the Cocoabeans Bakeshop last year when I heard about their Tache location, but now that they have a new space along Corydon (and relatively nearby my place), there was no reason to miss it. Cocoabeans is popularly known to be one of fewer places in the city that offer a wide array of gluten free goods. From brunch entrees to fresh pastries to go, this place not only delivers healthy options but also tasty delicious food. Their bakery is still located at 268 Tache Avenue while the new Cocoabeans cafe and diner is along 774 Corydon Avenue.

I finally caught up with Bahar, who I first met during the opening of a local boutique called Pinch of Creativity. I decided to grab some dessert with her over the weekend at the newest spot in the city, Buttercream by Alareen. I have heard of her pastries in pop up markets so it's really wonderful to see that she now has a space to cater to customers. She makes a variety of macarons, cupcakes, cake pops, square bars and cookies on a daily basis; as well as buttercream cakes that can be preordered a day before. Aside from the sweets, you can also get local ceramic wares from Mud+Stone, hand poured candles from Coal and Canary and cake toppers from Prim and Prairie. Whether you're suddenly craving for dessert or looking to get a customized cake for a special occasion, Buttercream by Alareen is a great option for everything darling and sweet. The shop is located at 709 Corydon Ave and is open Tuesday to Saturday (11am to 8pm)

It's not very common to see a Filipino restaurant in the areas I frequent in the city, so when I saw the newly opened Bisita restaurant along Corydon, I knew I had to try it out with my family. As Filipinos are known for their hospitality, Bisita (meaning 'guest') is the perfect name for this new spot. Owned by the same guy behind the infamous local food truck Pimp my Rice, this restaurant welcomes diners for lunch and dinner. My family and I went there for lunch so we made our way through their 'silog' dishes, made up of your choice of meat, rice, egg and pickled vegetables. For their dinner menu, I was told they do family style dining with unlimited rice and classic Filipino dishes. I believe that Bisita is a wonderful addition to this neighbourhood and I encourage everyone who can, to go try Filipino food here!
