It's spring break! Even though it technically does not apply to me as my student days have long passed, I wanted to share with you some ideas if you happen to be a local reader or looking for something to do in your own city.
- Check out a local coffee and donut shop: This month one of my favourite cafes, Little Sister Coffee Maker, is bringing back their Honey Lavender Latte. A good 10-minute walk from here is Oh Doughnuts, which produces some of the most delicious treats including vegan and gluten free options. I highly recommend this combination if you are from Winnipeg.
- Find a quick day trip from your city: Just 30 minutes away from Winnipeg is Pineridge Hollow and this remains to be one of the most charming locations I've been to. From a restaurant, a boutique, a greenhouse and even a small grazing field for farm animals, this place is sure to give you the quintessential prairie experience. (Also, makes for the perfect ootd background).
- Drive around and shoot local scenery: Through friends, I've discovered a scenic route around Lockport, Manitoba. It goes by the river and gives you perfect shots of majestic houses in that community. It's also cool to see how the season is changing based on the thawing body of water.
- Treat yourself to beer / wine / cocktails: One of the newest and busiest microbrewery in town is Brazen Hall. Situated along Pembina Hwy, this brewpub features amazing local beers and delicious  from-scratch food pairings, sure to fill you up. The place itself is huge and beautifully decorated - perfect for groups; There is a buzz across the hall which speaks volumes about how inviting the ambiance is. It is such a great spot, I've been there twice since it opened last week.

Don't be fooled! The outfit photos I've shared here were from a few months back when the weather was still warmer. This summer dress is designed and made locally by Jill Sawatzky for her brand, Tony Chestnut. I've been meaning to share these but I just haven't found the perfect local feature to go with it. And then comes Tony Chestnut's Fall/Winter 2015 Collection Trunk Sale that happened last week at Little Sister Coffee Maker. I wish I could have taken better pictures of the event but, I ended up being too preoccupied with the sale that by the time I started taking pictures half of the clothes were gone. I got myself a dress that I can't wait to layer up for the colder season! For more of Tony Chestnut's design, I encourage everyone to check out the website here.

It's definitely Fall here in Winnipeg & I couldn't resist doing a Fall City Guide to feature some old and new spots my hometown has to offer during this time of the year. 

To start a cool & crisp morning, I recommend warming up with a cup of joe from one of my favourite cafe, Little Sister Coffee Maker in Osborne.

For breakfast, the newly opened, Creme De L'Essence, serves comfort food with a french fusion twist. I got their Chicken & Waffles, while the boy opted for their Eggs Benjamin --- both of which were perfect to start a long day ahead.


During the daytime, it's nice to make a drive out of the city. The highways are lined with trees in their changing autumn colours. I decided to check out Gimli for the first time and discovered how interesting this small rural municipality is.

 

When visiting, make sure to check out the Viking Statue as Gimli is also known to be the Heart of New Iceland. Also located downtown is H.P.Tergesen & Sons, a general store that has been in operation since 1899. 

After a quick day trip, we headed back to Winnipeg and made our way to Fort Whyte Alive. For this month, they are featuring Sunset Goose Flights. It's a great way to witness a breath taking display of thousands of geese landing half an hour after the sun sets below the horizon.

Whether you're with family, a group of friends or a photo enthusiast, it's a wonderful way of appreciating the change in season.

 

To cap the night off, I suggest getting small bites and craft cocktails at Black Rabbit Bistro. They have a good variety of drinks, all priced at $8, which is both convenient & affordable if you ask me.
